Housing Programs

The Orlando Housing Authority administers various rental assistance programs in the public and private sector.

What programs are available?

Conventional Public Housing Single Room Occupancy (SRO)
Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers Family Unification Program (FUP)

In order to receive housing assistance, an applicant must meet all basic eligibility requirements.  The applicant must be defined as a family and must be income-eligible to participate in the rental assistance programs; this also includes single persons.  The Admissions & Occupancy Department determines who is eligible to receive assistance under each specific program.

Applicants who apply for housing assistance are placed on a waiting list for the program in which they apply.  Tenant Selection is based on housing needs and local preferences.  Applicants with no local preference are placed on the waiting list with a “no preference” status.

When can I complete an application?

The Section 8 Program Waiting List is closed for new applicants.  Public Housing “pre-applications” can be submitted online at our website at www.orl-oha.org.   On Wednesdays, Orlando Housing Authority staff will be available to provide technical assistance to help applicants complete the online (computer based) pre-applications for public housing between 12 noon to 5 p.m., at the OHA’s Admissions Department, located at 300 ½ Reeves Court, Orlando, Florida 32803.

The Orlando Housing Authority is NOT accepting applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher.  Currently, the waiting list for Section 8 is over 3500.

The Orlando Housing Authority selects applicants for housing assistance based on ‘local preferences’.
